72 hour’s notice before the day of funeral must be made to the Cemetery contacts for site preparation.

All three parishes have their own cemeteries and each of them have space available. Costs for grave spaces/sites can be seen on the left. We can also mail you a cemetery brochure at your request, if you contact the Parish Office.
Our Lady of Sorrows is the Catholic cemetery in Lewistown, St. Charles is the Catholic cemetery in Havana and St. Frederick's is the Catholic cemetery in Manito. Each cemetery is run by a cemetery board overseen by the pastor.

In order to have the grave site prepared for interment, you will need to contact someone from the cemetery where you have, or wish to have, your loved one's plot. A minimum of 72 hours before the Funeral ensures adequate time to finish preparations. This information can be found on the cemetery specific site to the left.
1. New grave decorations may be placed on the ground for a period of 3 months.
2. Christmas wreaths and blankets may stay on the gravesite from Thanksgiving to Epiphany.
3. Grave decorations are limited to fresh cut or artificial flowers in containers placed on the monument or its base only. They are not permitted on the foundation or on the pad.
4. Hanging baskets of fresh or artificial flowers can be placed on a pole at the North side of the monument, at an angle to accomodate clear mowing. The pole can be repositioned by the cemetery staff on as needed.
While this outlines basic information, it cannot cover every situation. Please direct all questions to the cemetery contact/board for clarification. This will help avoid any misunderstandings or corrective actions.
There are many rules of Canon Law regarding Catholic cemeteries. Some of these are listed below for quick reference. Please be aware this is not a full list of rules. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask the Pastor or any cemetery representative.
1. Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Frederick's and St. Charles cemeteries are for the interment of human remains only.
2. The Pastor oversees the cemeteries.
3. Rules, regulations, and fees are subject to change dependent on inflation and will be given sixty (60) days advance notice.
4. The Pastor, or his appointed representative, reserves the right to remove any trees, shrubs, flowers, plants, wreaths or other decorations that are deened to be either unsightly, disrespectful to others or dangerous. A representative will remove from all lots or graves, after a reasonable length of time, all withered, dried or decomposed flowers, wreaths and the like that are unsightly or detrimental to the beauty of the cemetery.
5. All burials are to have a concrete liner at minimum.
6. All cremation burials are to have an urn vault.
7. All graves must have a permanent marker.
8. Monuments at the head of the grave may be upright. However, all markers at the foot of the grave must be level with the ground.
9. Monuments or headstones are to be in keeping with the tradition of existing monuments at each cemetery.
10. All monument foundations or bases will be installed and poured by the monument company to cemetery standards.
No visitors are allowed into the cemetery grounds between the hours of sunset and sunrise.
All persons visiting the cemetery are expected to conduct themselves in a manner befitting a Catholic burial place for the dead. No boisterous, disorderly or destructive conduct shall be allowed. Rules will be enforced vigorously and all such offenses will be pursued to the fullest extent of Illinois law.
